South Korea’s Crypto Rules Could Change Stablecoins and Taxes

30 July 2026

Strategy Bitcoin holdings continued to increase despite the accounting hit. The filing highlights how closely the firm’s balance sheet moves with Bitcoin prices.

Strategy reported a $17.44 billion unrealized loss on digital assets for the three months ended Dec. 31, 2025. The figure appeared in an 8-K filing. The company also recorded a $5.01 billion deferred tax benefit linked to the quarterly loss.

Strategy Bitcoin holdings were not reduced during the period. The company said it continued to follow its long-term holding approach.

Annual Loss Highlights Accounting Impact of Bitcoin Prices

For the full year ended Dec. 31, 2025, Strategy reported a $5.40 billion unrealized loss on digital assets. It also recorded a $1.55 billion deferred tax benefit for the year.

Management said the figures show how accounting results move with market prices. Strategy Bitcoin holdings remained central to the firm’s financial structure throughout the year.

The fourth-quarter loss reflected lower Bitcoin prices during the period. Strategy did not sell any Bitcoin. As of Dec. 31, 2025, the digital asset carrying value stood at $58.85 billion.

The company also reported a deferred tax liability of $2.42 billion. These figures show the scale of Strategy Bitcoin holdings on the balance sheet.

Bitcoin Purchases Continue in January

Strategy increased its Bitcoin position in early January. The company acquired 1,283 BTC between Jan. 1 and Jan. 4. The purchase cost about $116 million. The average price was $90,391 per Bitcoin. After the transaction, Strategy Bitcoin holdings rose to 673,783 BTC as of Jan. 4.

Equity Sales Fund Bitcoin Strategy

The company funded the purchases through stock sales. Strategy used its at-the-market equity program. It sold 735,000 Class A common shares between Jan. 1 and Jan. 4. Net proceeds totaled $116.3 million.

Additional sales between Dec. 29 and Dec. 31 raised $195.9 million. This approach continues the firm’s pattern of raising equity to expand Strategy Bitcoin holdings.

Aggregate Cost of Bitcoin Treasury

As of Jan. 4, Strategy reported an aggregate Bitcoin purchase price of $50.55 billion. The average acquisition cost across all holdings was $75,026 per BTC. These figures reflect years of accumulation.

Strategy Bitcoin holdings were built across multiple market cycles. The company has not indicated plans to reduce exposure.

Cash Reserves Support Balance Sheet

Strategy also disclosed its cash position. As of Jan. 4, the firm held $2.25 billion in U.S. dollar reserves. The company said the funds support dividend payments on preferred stock.

They also cover interest on outstanding debt. This reserve provides flexibility alongside Strategy Bitcoin holdings when markets turn volatile.

Leadership and Disclosure Notes

Strategy is led by executive chairman Michael Saylor. The company cautioned that the financial data in the filing was prepared by management.

It stated that its independent auditor, KPMG, did not audit or review the figures. No audit opinion was issued. The disclosure follows standard regulatory practice.

Conclusion

The latest filing shows the tension between accounting results and long-term strategy. Strategy Bitcoin holdings continued to grow despite a large unrealized loss in late 2025. The company kept buying Bitcoin in early January.

It funded purchases through equity sales and maintained strong cash reserves. For investors, the filing underscores how Strategy Bitcoin holdings remain the core driver of both risk and opportunity.
