Nigeria Protests for Crypto Regulatory Push

Nigeria protests are gaining momentum as the cryptocurrency community adds their voices to the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, advocating for the inclusion of industry-specific demands. Many in the crypto sector see this movement, which aims to address various governance issues, as an opportunity to push for regulatory reforms that could benefit both the industry and the broader economy.

Despite differing opinions, the Nigeria crypto protests have brought to light the importance of dialogue and collaboration between the government and the crypto community.

By working together, stakeholders can ensure that the policies put in place will benefit the industry and the nation as a whole.

Nigeria Protests: Crypto Industry Needs Representation

Rume Ophi, the former Secretary of the Stakeholders in Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria (SiBAN), has emerged as a strong advocate for incorporating crypto-related demands into the protest agenda. Ophi told reporters, “First and foremost, it is the right of citizens to make demands that favor the nation. In this case, it is a peaceful protest. Since some of these demands have been made by the protest organizers, one would expect a crypto demand to be there.”

Ophi believes that favorable crypto regulations could attract significant investment, create jobs, and spur economic growth. “Like friendly crypto regulations so investors can jump on the industry to employ people. I don’t support the destruction of state property, but a demand to draft a friendly regulation by the National Assembly should be part of the demands,” he added.

The Nigeria crypto protests have highlighted a growing consensus among industry stakeholders that now is the time for the government to take concrete steps to support the burgeoning crypto sector. With the potential to unlock new economic opportunities, the call for regulatory reform is gaining traction.

Nigeria Protests: No Need for Separate Crypto Protests

However, not everyone in the Nigeria crypto protests agrees with this approach. Chimezie Chuta, Chairman of the National Blockchain Policy Steering Committee, expressed a different perspective. He pointed out that the government has already taken substantial steps to support the blockchain and crypto industry in Nigeria.

Chuta stated that a steering committee has been established to ensure the successful implementation of the policy, which addresses many of the crypto industry’s needs. Therefore, Chuta sees no reason for the industry to protest against the policy.
